    1978 – Biolite Coating

With the knowledge that polyester sewing rings are thrombogenic, Sorin engineers invented a low temperature electrostatic process for depositing a micro-thin carbon coating on the fabric. The coating was named "Biolite™". By masking portions of the sewing ring to block the coating, the process made possible the white suture guide marks seen on many Sorin heart valves.
